Professional Engineers perform engineering reviews of applications, plans, and calculations for consistency with District rules. The position requires competency in standard engineering methodology for calculating stormwater runoff, floodplain/floodway analysis, and retention/detention system design. They may be asked to use engineering skills, education, and experience to assist in other District programs or to provide technical assistance external to the Suwannee River Water Management District. Additionally, they may perform engineering analysis, planning, design and manage engineering construction, maintenance and operation projects or serve as a task manager within a major project. Other responsibilities include:
- Provides guidance to staff performing Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) application review.
- Communicates with applicants/permittees and conducts field visits of project sites to collect data and determine compliance status.
- Conduct pre-application conferences with applicants.
- Reviews complex ERP applications for consistency with appropriate criteria, requests additional information as needed, and prepares technical staff reports on findings.
- Analyzes hydrologic, hydraulic, and engineering data for water resource and engineering projects.
- Reviews and certifies the work of other engineers as required by Florida Statutes.
- Serves as expert witness when necessary.
- Coordinates with the District's legal staff to ensure compliance with applicable statutes and rules and assists with enforcement proceedings if necessary.
- Provides interagency coordination and represents the District as needed.
- Assists in the rule development or revision process.
- Gives presentations as needed.
- Performs related work as required.
