DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Hydrologic Data Collection Specialist I is specialized technical work performing hydrologic and meteorologic data collection, processing and quality assurance. Five levels have been assigned to this classification, dependent on the degree of responsibility and complexity of tasks assigned. Progression through the levels will be documented by a formal evaluation process and testing mechanism.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Meets with landowners and appropriate staff to coordinate the collection of hydrologic and meteorologic data and obtain signed access agreements.
* Responds to public inquiries and complaints regarding data collection, hydrologic conditions, site monitoring construction and aquifer protection.
* Conducts site investigations and recommends locations for installation of data collection systems.
* Designs, constructs and installs monitoring sites.
* Installs, calibrates, tests, validates, troubleshoots and maintains hydro-meteorologic instrumentation used in hydro-meteorologic data collection.
* Measures and records water pressure and water levels in wells, lakes, rivers and streams.
* Collects water quality and sediment samples; prepares samples for laboratory testing.
* Maintains field notes in paper and electronic form.
* Records data extracted from the Global Position Systems equipment in appropriate databases.
* Performs field data quality assurance for water levels, rainfall, net and total radiation, wind speed, wind direction, relative humidity and evaporation.
* Uses portable and desk top computers in the field and office to perform quality and technical data analysis.
* Prepares technical reports regarding data quality and hydrologic conditions.
* Performs other related work as required.
