The Water Resources Chief serves as a technical expert for a resource area and is responsible for making strategic and technical decisions and recommendations that directly impact the success of one or more of the District’s strategic programs.
This position leads a staff that is responsible for developing and managing the collection and analysis of water quality, biological, and special project data as well as analysis of hydrologic and agricultural water use data in support of the District’s mission and core focus areas.
Job Duties Include:
- Manage the Water Resources Office and staff, providing direction, oversight, administration, mentorship, and employee development within the office.
- This position provides the day-to-day supervision of the other employees in the Office of Water Resources of the District. Such supervision includes preparing employee evaluations for the Executive Director’s review and making recommendations to the Executive Director for the hiring, firing, promotion, discipline and salary of such employees. Therefore, this position is considered the human resource assistant manager for this office.
- Lead the development and coordination efforts associated with District-wide data collection needs; monitor network planning, data analysis, and reporting.
- Identify impairments related to water quality, biological or disturbance effects, and hydrologic conditions; assist in developing remediation strategies to address impairment.
- Analyze data for trends and hydrologic relationships, particularly related to ecosystem impairment.
- Obtain, review, and manage procurement, grant, and contractual services agreements.
- Perform data quality assurance and quality control, along with data analysis and reporting.
- Summarize findings for presentation and/or publication for a variety of audiences.
- Coordinate and communicate with other staff, cooperating agencies, elected officials, the governing board, and the public.
- Develop and manage Water Resources Office budgets; assist other offices with their budget line items associated with data collection.
- Manage and coordinate ad hoc and special project data collection and analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
