DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Hydrologic Data Collection Specialist I assists in the collection of data as part of the water use monitoring network along with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of dataloggers. This position requires contact with area farmers and site visits to farms. This position performs quality control measures to assure that data is collected and entered correctly and that all documentation and other related records are completed and maintained in a timely manner. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Contacting agricultural water use permittees to collect permissions for water use monitoring through power use estimation or other types of monitoring.
* Recording meter information and well data on agricultural irrigation systems, and entry of this information into District databases.
* Installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of water use sensing equipment. Installation includes assembly and mounting of dataloggers and telemetry equipment at agricultural sites. Maintenance includes clearing brush and debris from monitoring sites.
* Maintains and submits field notes in paper and electronic form.
* Uses portable and desk top computers in the field and office to perform duties.
* Entry and retrieval of data in District well information databases.
* Assistance in the operation and maintenance of specialized and general equipment including flow meters and generators.
* Other duties as assigned by the supervising professional.
EDUCATION AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A background in north Florida agriculture is strongly preferred. A high school diploma or G.E.D., and a valid Florida Driver’s License.
SPECIAL ABILITIES AND/OR REQUIREMENTS
* Ability to interact with agricultural producers and water use permittees in a professional manner.
* Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (email and spreadsheets), personal computers, tablets, and calculators.
* Experience with hand tools and power tools including but not limited to chainsaws, weedeaters, reciprocating saws, and drills.
* Ability to lift and carry construction materials and equipment up to 50 pounds in weight and up to 1000 feet to sites that may not be directly accessible by vehicle.
* Ability to locate sites by coordinates, internet or paper maps, and GIS software, and ability to operate GPS equipment.
* Ability to work outdoors alone in uncomfortable temperatures, inclement weather, dangerous wildlife and remote locations.
* Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s license.
* Clear and legible handwriting.
