The Hydrologist position performs hydrologic analysis and modeling, and assists with/or oversees the implementation of Minimum Flows and Minimum Levels (MFL) projects.
Job Duties Include:
Hydrologist II:
- Perform hydrologic analysis and/or modeling assignments for minimum flows and levels establishment and implementation for various water bodies.
- Develop, refine, and apply appropriate data, analytical tools, numerical models, and statistical analysis.
- Assist with field work to collect hydrologic data.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of all data used in the MFL process.
- Conduct technical reviews on document deliverables from District contractors and peer reviewers.
- Assist with management of technical work conducted by public and private contractors.
- Provide data and technical assistance to state and local agencies, consultants, and the general public.
- Deliver presentations and/or otherwise communicate technical information related to the hydrology of the District and its programs to District staff, other agencies, and/or the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Hydrologist III:
- All Hydrologist II duties in addition to the following:
- Perform moderately complex hydrologic analysis and/or modeling assignments for minimum flows and levels establishment and implementation for various water bodies.
- Participate in the development of new methods for the establishment of minimum flows and levels.
- Manage technical work conducted by public and private contractors, including developing the scope of work, schedule, and budget.
- Review available datasets and determine needs for additional data collection activities.
- Provide interagency coordination and represent the District.
- Be able to perform all duties with moderate supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Hydrologist IV:
- All Hydrologist III duties in addition to the following:
- Perform complex hydrologic analysis and/or modeling assignments for minimum flows and levels establishment and implementation for various water bodies.
- Lead development of new methods for establishment of minimum flows and levels.
- Ensure best practices are followed by maintaining awareness and knowledge of developments and tools in the fields of surface water modeling and hydrologic analysis.
- Act as a subject matter expert both internally and externally.
- Train and mentor other District staff.
- Be able to perform all duties with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
