MFL Environmental Scientist II or III

The MFL Environmental Scientist position conducts environmental sampling, evaluates and analyzes data, compiles data, and assists with technical report writing in order to develop minimum flows and levels for priority water resources.

Job Duties Include:

ES II:

  • Conduct environmental sampling, evaluate and analyze data, compile data, and assist with technical report writing in order to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Develop sampling plans and coordinate data collection efforts for evaluation of water, soils, vegetation, and/or hydrologic parameters.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of all data used in the MFL process.
  • Conduct technical reviews on document deliverables from District contractors and peer reviewers.
  • Assist with contractual management of outsourced tasks for the MFL program.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on MFL topics at public meetings and education or outreach opportunities.
  • Provide data and technical assistance to state and local agencies, consultants, and the general public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ES III:

All ES II duties in addition to the following:

  • Perform moderately complex hydrological, biological, and statistical data analysis in coordination with the MFL and Water Supply Offices. Provide interpretation of results.
  • Review available datasets and determine needs for additional data collection activities.
  • Coordinate with contractors on both methodology and direction of the MFL development process.
  • Manage contracts for MFL task work assignments, including developing the scope of work, schedule, and budget.
  • Provide interagency coordination and represent the District.
  • Be able to perform all duties with moderate supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
